1st Year Anniversary - Chase's Point-of-View

This last weekend, July 19th, 2008, Tedi and I celebrated our 1st anniversary. Tedi was in charge of planning our trip. She did great at not telling me anything about where we were going until we got in the car to leave for our destination (since I was driving, I kinda needed to know where I was driving to). We went to Park City, UT. We've been to Park City a few times and since it's just far enough away, but not too far to cost too much in travel, it was a great destination to spend the weekend together.

Tedi booked us a room at The Carriage House Condominiums... that's where it all started. When we get to the hotel/condo, there is no one at the front desk to check us in. We had to call ahead of time to request them to put our keys in a safe in the wall. It's a good thing we did that. We got our keys and went to our room. Boy were we up for a surprise. We walked into our itty bitty room and we were hit with a wave of heat. We went straight for the thermostat and found out that someone had left the heat on. We knew we would not be able to stand the heat, so we started looking around for the Air Conditioner. With no luck, we couldn't find the AC unit, so we opened the windows to let some air come in. But it really doesn't help with it's 90+ outside with no breeze. For our anniversary, I bought Tedi her favorite painting from IKEA, the one of Audrey Hepbourne, and I also finally finished our wedding video. We watched our wedding video in our sauna of a room. Since it was late, and we couldn't stand the heat, and we couldn't complain to the management, because no one was there, we decided to just go out to eat and hope that the room cools off while we were out.

We went to Cafe Rio for dinner. It was delicious. We got back to our room and... no luck. It was still blasted hot in our room, for me at least. But we had no other choice but to buck up and spend the night. We turned off all the light and got into bed when we realized that it was still bright in our room. It was the middle of the night and it seemed like it was mid day outside. I opened the curtain to find that there was a street light right outside our window. We knew then that it was going to be a long night. Every move we made on the bed sounded like the bed was going to fall apart. I felt like that if I bounced hard enough, I could actually bounce Tedi right off the bed, it was like one huge spring.

We made it through the night, but even after 10 hours of sleep, I was still tired. Tedi was so excited to take a bath for the first time in a year, so she hopped in the tub and took a bath. When we were both finished getting ready that morning, we went to our little fridge, in our little kitchenette to get our drinks out and we find that the fridge is flooded. Apparently, the kitchenette and the bathtub share the same plumbing. So all the overflow water in the bathtub went into our fridge. So while Tedi took a towel to soak up the water, I decided to take look in our closet, and guess what I found? Our window mounted AC Unit disconnected and sitting in our closet, just to mock us. We decided to go talk to the management, since they finally showed up that morning about 9 am.

We spoke to the manager about our situation. He said, the only room that we can give you is down the street a few blocks and it has two beds. I didn't want to stay with this hotel anymore, so I said no. He then said, "If you can find another place to stay, I will give you a refund." I said okay, and we decided to go next door to the Marriott. They had some vacancies and so we decided we were going to stay there. We went back to the Carriage House and demanded our money back. The manager was no help, he said since we booked through expedia, he just wouldn't send them an invoice. Well, that doesn't help since Expedia already took our money for the stay. But we weren't going to let this ruin our anniversary anymore.

We went down to Main Street and treated ourselves to some caremel apples from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. Oh Yum! After we browsed Main Street, we headed over to the Olympic Park to see if we could do some Alpine Slide. Unfortunately, they were having a Ski/Arobatics show, so we couldn't get in without paying an additional $10 per person. So we decided not to do that. We headed over to the Outlet Mall and look at a bunch of clothes and kitchen stuff and sunglasses. Tedi bought a cute yellow shirt. We had lunch at Quizno's and headed back to our new hotel to take a nap.

We checked in, and got to our room. We walked in and we felt like we were special guests. Our room was so nice, you didn't want to mess anything up. The beds were so soft. And the best thing of all... Central Air!!! We took a good nap and then went to dinner at Ruby Tuesdays. So good! We went back to the room and got ready to take a dip in the swimming pool. It felt so good to go swimming. I haven't gone swimming since our Honeymoon. We took some time in the Sauna room (a real one this time), and spent some time in the Hot Tub. This was more like it. We were enjoying ourselves a lot. We went back to the room and watched some TV and fell asleep. We both got a really good night sleep because the bed was oh so soft and comfortable, plus we had AC. We got packed up and headed home.

Even though things started out a little rough, it all worked out in the end and we had a great time. I love my Tedi and can't wait to spend another year with her!

  3. Congrats on your anniversary! haha, I know exactly which Audrey Hepburn IKEA poster you're talking about; I've always wanted that one. Thanks for the book suggestions Tedi! I did actually get Phantom for Christmas, but I've never gotten around to reading it. Maybe I will this week...
